‘Call the Midwife’ is not only the most Anglo Catholic show on TV, but also the most purely Christian show that I’ve seen in ages.
It’s based on a memoir by Jennifer Worth about her experience as a nurse working alongside a group of Anglo Catholic nuns that served the poor in the East End of London in the 1950’s as midwives. The fictional ‘Sisters of St. Raymond Nonnatus’ are based on the real life Sisters of St. John the Divine who are now located in Birmingham. The stories and characters are so human and life-affirming, and the show is really well acted and beautifully shot. As an added bonus there are often shots of the Sisters chanting the Office in their chapel. Bravo BBC!

Blessed John Henry Newman Catholic Church: S. John Chrysostom's Easter Sermon

jhnewmanchurch:

Are there any who are devout lovers of God?

Let them enjoy this beautiful bright festival!

Are there any who are grateful servants?
Let them rejoice and enter into the joy of their Lord!

Are there any weary with fasting?
Let them now receive their wages!

If any have toiled from the first…

Way of the Cross, Brooklyn Bridge.

I overheard a little girl in the procession ask her father, “Why are people going the other way?”
