So good! For all you Prayer Book lovers out there. READ IT!
‘Call the Midwife’ is not only the most Anglo Catholic show on TV, but also the most purely Christian show that I’ve seen in ages.
It’s based on a memoir by Jennifer Worth about her experience as a nurse working alongside a group of Anglo Catholic nuns that served the poor in the East End of London in the 1950’s as midwives. The fictional ‘Sisters of St. Raymond Nonnatus’ are based on the real life Sisters of St. John the Divine who are now located in Birmingham. The stories and characters are so human and life-affirming, and the show is really well acted and beautifully shot. As an added bonus there are often shots of the Sisters chanting the Office in their chapel. Bravo BBC!
Medieval mass at Church of the Resurrection (NYC) for Lady Day. No electricity or English, but there was a touch of French before the Regina Coeli.
